World's #11 Daryl Selby from England vs Whistler's top players
MONDAY 7:00PM
Free of Charge! come out & watch some top squash for free!
After debating the fact at the Xmas party, an overwhelming number of League members voted to change the promotion/relegation to 2 players going up and 2 players going down each month- that will be effective immediately, so after December 2 will go up and 2 will go down.
Also, if you have made a reasonable effort to contact your opponent and they are not responding, then please take the 3-0 victory- this is a grey area and the point is that people have to be available to play to a reasonable level of availability. If players aren't playing their matches, they simply lose 3-0. Please email manager@whistlersquash.com if you run into any issues and we'll work it out.
It's time for the 1st of 2 squash socials of the year- the infamous Squash Club Xmas party- Thursday Dec 8th. We hope everyone can attend as it's really a fun event. Here is the schedule:
6:15-7:00- Challenge Ben & Rob (details below) 7:00-8:30- Group play at courts (all abilities encouraged) 9:00 onwards- Party at Milestones (base of Blackcomb)
Everyone is invited and all abilities should turn up ready to play in various fun games. Those that can't make the squash are also invited to come to Milestones where there will be an open bar for a certain period of time and as much food as the budget allows! We will also have the remainder of last year's shirts to give away, so if that's not an incentive I don't know what is.
Challenge Ben & Rob: We are trying to raise some money for the juniors. Players can pay $5 and they then play Ben or Rob in a game up to 5. For each point the player wins they get $2 back. So if you get 5 points you can double your money! But if you get zero, the juniors get your money! It's a great opportunity to challenge your skills and to have fun while raising some money for the kids (assuming Rob & I can hold are own that is- not sure what we'll do if we end up in a deficit!). We'll have the stands set up, so we hope everyone shows their support and comes out to challenge- we'll all get on the courts afterwards for some fun social games involving players of all ability levels. The challenges will be on a first come first served basis.
I will be taking the scores down on Dec 1st, and will be sending out the new boxes likely on Dec 2nd.
Hope to see everyone on Thursday Dec 8th!
Registration for the 2011, 2012 league is now closed. The boxes have been sent out to the players and posted on the board next to the courts.
If you would like to join the league we have a waiting list and we think there will be some dropouts due to injury and commitment etc- please just email manager@whistlersquash.com and we'll see what we can do.
Squash League Registration is now closed. We are currently ranking all the entries and putting together the boxes. We are taking a waiting list and we are hoping to be able to add more players. If you would like to play but have not yet entered please email manager@whistlersquash.com and we'll put you on the list.
We'll be sending out the rankings in the next few days and then the boxes will be posted just before play starts on October 1st.
Thanks to all those who entered- record entries (72)!

Key Dates:
The Fee includes:
Highlights of the new format: * All details on http://www.whistlersquash.com under Rules * Box league with 5 players per box * No set schedule- players have the month to play their 4 opponents * League fee does not include court fees, so you book and pay as you ordinarily would for any other match. * 1st place in box moves up at the end of each month, last place moves down
Please note Meadow Park has new policies whereby all courts must be pre-paid upon booking and are non-refundable in the event of cancellation within 24 hours.
Once again to register please go to http://www.whistlersquash.com and simply sign up by Sep 21st, then drop your cheque made payable to Whistler Squash Club for $65 off at the Open House or BEFORE the Open House in the box outside the courts.
We are also hoping that all league participants join Squash BC- the fee is $40 and Squash BC really needs everyone’s support to ensure the continual development and viability of squash within BC- A list of benefits and registration is available on www.squashbc.com (under Membership tab on the left).
See you on the courts!
A very quick note here to keep everyone in the loop-
Squash League Registration will be open in the next few days, but we are still working on the site, so it is not ready yet. It will be a very easy process of simply entering your name online.
Key dates: - Next few days: Registration on whistlersquash.com opens - Sep 20- Registration closes (only a 1 week window to register - Sep 21 & 22nd- Open House- mandatory (1 of the 2 nights) for all new members to ascertain level- courts open to play, so everyone should come! 6:15-8:00 - The fees are $65 (does not include court fees which are payable as any normal booking)- cheque to Whistler Squash needs to be dropped off at the Open House or in the squash box outside the courts by Sep 22nd - Oct 1st- Play begins - Play is Oct-March inclusive and will be a 5 person box league format
We've had a very good response from players about the proposed new format, so we think there will be a lot of faces that we haven't seen in a while re-joining the league which is great! There are also a lot of new faces, so that's good too!
Thanks for your patience while we update the site and get it ready for registration- we will send out another message as soon as the site is ready..
Ben :)
Squash Season is almost upon us- this is a quick message to give everyone the heads up that league registration will be starting soon- this is an FYI email only- more detailed info to come very soon.
REGISTRATION IS NOT OPEN YET- will be soon!
The 3 things we are trying to do are: 1- Make levels more even 2- Fix rescheduling issues 3- Avoid double paying if you already have a squash pass and avoid paying for courts when people are injured/away etc
Here are the highlights: - Moving to a Box League format- 5 players per box- you have the month to play each of your 4 opponents. The top player goes up, the bottom goes down - League starts Oct 1st- runs Oct-March inclusive - There won't be a set schedule, so players can schedule their 4 matches per month subject to their own times - There will be a league fee (not sure how much, but a lot less than the $165 of last year), but you will not be pre-paying for your courts- ie you just book your courts & pay like you would for any normal match - Registration will open soon (not open yet, so pls don't email me with a registration!)- another message will be sent out - All new players will have to come to Open House to ascertain level (likely Sep 21 and 22) - Everyone will have to pay by dropping a cheque off into the box outside the courts by the Open House
I'm hoping this makes the league much better for all-
More info to come soon...
The Whistler Squash League will resume in October of 2011- emails will be sent out in early Sep and posters will go up at the courts.
The format will be changing this year. We will be doing boxes of 5 players. You will have the month to play your 4 opponents, then at the end of the month 1 player will move up and 1 will move down. The matches will not be scheduled, with the idea being you have to contact your opponents to set up matches in each given month. This should help solve our re-scheduling issue.
Please note, Meadow Park will be moving to a pre-payment format starting in September whereby squash players need to pre-pay for their courts when the courts are booked and any no shows will not get a refund. The league court fees will be pre-paid as usual and you'll have a credit on your account to play those matches.
More info in September!
Enjoy the summer!
Ben :)
We will be hosting our annual May Long Weekend squash tournament- Friday May 20th to Monday May 23rd. All abilities are welcome to play. Some of the best players in the province will be here including BC's #1 player, and plenty of the city squash socialites will be there too, so it'll be good times all round! If you are interested in playing please email manager@whistlersquash.com and we'll reply with ability levels etc. If you've never playing in a tournament this is the perfect one to start with!
Thanks to all those who played in the squash league 2010/11 and congrats to the winners of each of the divisions!
Next year we will be moving to a box league format. There will be 5 people in each box and you have the month to play the other 4 in your box. At the end of each month the winner of the box will move up and the last place player will move down. This should tighten up the ability levels and there is no set schedule, so it should alleviate scheduling issues. The league will start Oct 1st, so watch for more info in September.
If you haven't picked up your t-shirt please email benwhistler@yahoo.com and we'll arrange for you to pick up your shirt.
Please note, Meadow Park is moving towards pre-payment for all court bookings next year with a 24 hour cancellation period. More info to follow.
See you next year!
The warp-up party will be Thursday March 31st. We will also extend the deadline to get scores in until Friday March 25th. So if you'd like to get any missed matches in before then please do so then email me with the results. (will have to pay for court time).
If there are any ties after Friday the 25th those people will play off at the Grand Finale night on Thursday the 31st. If there are no ties we will still play some round-robins, so everyone should plan to come to the courts ready to play at 6:15 on the 31st. We'll book both courts for 2 court times, so 6:15 to 7:45. Everyone is invited to play regardless of levels and we'll do some fun round-robins and handicap games. We'll then go to Milestones again at the base of Blackcomb for the apres squash, so if you can't make the squash, please come there at about 8:00.
I will have the elusive league t-shirts at the courts and Milestones, so there's your incentive to come!
Good luck in any last minute matches and see you on the 31st.
Ben :)
The 2011 Winter Squash Session will begin on Monday Jan 10th.
Those of you looking for a great deal on a new squash racket should check out the discounts that league members get on Karakal rackets:
The seedings for each level have now been posted. Because certain levels were over-subscribed, not all players will find themselves in the level they originally registered for. If you'd like to try and fight your way back into your preferred level, then please refer to the challenge rules.
The final schedule will be posted in the next week or so once we see how many people move around as a result of being challenged. Regardless of the final schedule, the following is known:
Good luck to everyone.
Registration for the 2010/2011 is now closed. Thanks to everyone who showed up at the open house and to those who've already paid. If you haven't yet paid, please drop a check off at Meadow Park as soon as possible.
The schedule and final seedings will be posted online the week of October 4th, 2010.
If you have any questions regarding the registration, please feel free to contact us.

OPEN HOUSE
CHALLENGING
If a player is at risk of moving down and not available to play between Oct 1-15th, the League will make a decision on whether they should have to move down based on last year's stats (this only applies if players not available to play in the challenge period). The idea is to get the right people in the right levels before the League starts and having a limited challenging period is the fairest way to make this happen.
XMAS RELEGATION/PROMOTION
The top 2 players in each level at Xmas will have the CHOICE of whether they want to try to move up to the next level or whether they want to stay at the top of their level. If they do want to move up, they can challenge either of the bottom 2 players. The top player will get the first choice of who they choose to challenge. If a player is successful in their 'Promotion Challenge', the players will switch levels. The player moving up will take a score of zero into the 2nd half of the season (if you are moving up you are moving up to play better squash, not to try to win the next level). The player moving down will take the new top person in the lower level's score minus five points. The idea is the person moving down now has a good chance of winning the lower level, but does not come in to that level with the top score. The league reserves the right to alter the scoring system slightly in the event that the minus 5 rule is not making practical sense
